Chlorine or pool taste
This usually means the chlorine or chloramine your utility uses to keep the mains safe on the way to the house.
The utility has to hold a residual all the way to the last tap on the street, so the houses nearer the plant taste it more than the ones at the end of the run.
Look for a stronger taste after the utility flushes hydrants, a smell that fades if a glass sits out for an hour, and neighbors saying the same thing.
Do not buy a softener for taste. Softeners exchange hardness minerals and leave chlorine where it is. Carbon is the part that does this job.
Related: white scale and spots and salty after a softener.
